6+ Places to Learn For Free
In this generation, only the hungry survive.
We are passed the time where you can learn a single skill (or limited set of skills) and work doing just that for the rest of your life. Learning something new and reinventing ourselves is now table stakes.
Using the number of jobs I have had is an indicator of the number of times I needed to ‘reinvent’ myself, I have worked as a full-time employee for 4 companies. If you add internships and part-time positions the number rises to 10. Add start-up / side projects and I loose count. I am 32.
Yes, I am an outlier but, I would argue I am in the future, and it is not evenly distributed.
It is also true, you may not have to completely reinvent yourself as you change roles, just evolve, but you must keep learning.
Speaking with an extended family member who is switching careers and in his 50s, he turned to me and asked ‘Where I go to learn?’ so I made this list of places to learn new skills (beyond YouTube) that are free or less expensive side (less than college — which is insanely expensive, but thats another subject). The list is not exhaustive, but is a good starting point for staying fresh.
Now what to learn first?
